Questions About Dental Cleaning

Serving patients from Los Gatos, San Jose, Saratoga and the surrounding areas

What can I expect at my dental cleaning?

Depending on your needs for oral care, X-rays may be taken during your exam. The purpose of X-rays is to allow the dentist to see areas of your mouth that are not visible to the eye. For instance, X-rays show bone structures of the jaw, face, and head, as well as around the teeth. X-rays are an important part of monitoring your oral health and aid in developing treatment plans, when necessary.

During your visit, the current state of your oral health is documented, which can be used for monitoring your oral health long-term. A dental hygienist will also thoroughly clean your teeth and gums, careful to remove all buildup of plaque. The dentist will also examine your mouth, teeth, and gums to identify any problem areas that may require treatment.

Oral cancer screenings are also an important component of your dental exam. Since oral cancer often does not present any symptoms until the later stages, early identification of oral cancer is key to treatment and survival rate.

With so much of your health at stake, why skip out on regular dental cleanings and exams? Not only do routine visits help maintain your oral health and the health of your body, but also helps lessen your chances of needing expensive dental repairs later on.
